about Toon Vis

Toon Vis – The Art of Life and Creation

Welcome to the world of Toon Vis, an artist whose life is inextricably linked to creativity and wonder. In the landscape of South Limburg. From his atmospheric farmhouse and countless small sheds (boetjes) overflowing with art, he works on an oeuvre that is as diverse as it is captivating.

Toon Vis creates both abstract paintings and objects in which everyday materials such as cardboard, plaster, and wood are given new life. His continuous urge to create is palpable; he rarely leaves the house without his trusty sketchbook and an arsenal of pens and markers – always ready to capture an impulse.

What characterizes Toon is his deep connection with his inner world and his surroundings. He is a man who feels one with everything around him, from the ceiling to the table, and this philosophical perspective resonates in all his work. He has developed his own intuitive techniques to achieve the perfect balance, composition, and harmony in terms of form and interplay of color in his paintings. He sometimes uses a self-designed scale that plays an underlying role. This often results in series and combinable works that invite an experience.

about

Toon has chosen to dedicate his time and energy entirely to creating, far away from the spotlight of exhibitions and promotion. This makes him the 'real' artist in the eyes of many: someone driven by a pure love for the work.

Encouraged by his family and children, he is now stepping forward as an artist after 60 years. He invites you to come by; the work may be seen, sold, and distributed, so that it may have a second life in the light of others.

Send a message and stop by on Saturday or Sunday morning, or make a personal appointment. There is still a multitude of work to view in the studio.

Toon is a warm and committed person. With sparkling humor and a genuine interest in his fellow man, he is a beloved figure in his village and within his family and circle of friends. His musical talent, particularly his improvisations on the piano and his own compositions, reveals yet another dimension of his versatile abilities.

The works of Toon Vis can be classified as lyrical expressionism, characterized by spontaneous brushstrokes. Behind this apparent spontaneity, however, lies deep thought and deliberation. For when is a work finished? Where does a dark touch add strength, or where does a contrasting color break the monotony? These are all decisions made with great care.

This website offers a rare glimpse into the rich and inspiring world of Toon Vis, which was closed until now – a world where art and life flow seamlessly into one another.
